Gain first hand experience from the head honchos in the industry of your choice. The CA practical experience requirements consist of a prescribed 3-year period of training with a CA Training Office (CATO). Up to one-third of a candidate's experience can be obtained internationally as long as the candidate remains under the overall supervision of the employing office.

Expanded Opportunities Beyond Public Practice
Choosing where you will get your practical experience may be harder than you think, because the Institute has expanded the list of places where you can get on-the-job training. In addition to public accounting firms, now students can gain experience at approved training offices like RBC, Manulife, Telus and the Office of the Comptroller General of Canada. You can browse through a full list of Ontario CA firms who are designated to train CA students. There are over 600.

Students may register with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Ontario (ICAO) when:
Beginning employment with an approved CATO or
Accepting an offer of employment in an approved CATO that will start no later than 12 months from the date of applying for registration
